Tracy, CA (January 7, 2026) – A deadly collision between two big rigs on westbound I-580 early Tuesday morning claimed the life of one driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on January 6, just east of International Pkwy. Authorities say a white Volvo big rig and trailer traveling in the No.2 lane slammed into the rear of another big rig that had stopped for traffic ahead. The force of the impact propelled both trucks across all westbound lanes and into the center median.
The driver of the Volvo was trapped inside the wreckage and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the second big rig was unharmed and remained at the scene to speak with officers.
CHP investigators stated that impairment or distraction is not believed to have played a role in the crash. The investigation remains active as officials work to determine the contributing factors.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the driver who lost their life in this tragic collision.
