Tooele, UT (January 7, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision on Monday night left a deputy with the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office injured and prompted the temporary closure of a section of SR-36 near milepost 60.
The crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. when, according to the Utah Highway Patrol, a driver traveling southbound on SR-36 ran a red light at the intersection with Village Blvd. The violating vehicle struck the deputy’s patrol vehicle, which was attempting to make a left turn from westbound Village Blvd onto northbound SR-36. A second uninvolved vehicle was also impacted during the crash.
Emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene and confirmed that the officer sustained minor injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment and has since been released.
Southbound SR-36 was shut down for approximately an hour while officials cleared the scene and conducted an initial investigation. All lanes have since reopened.
We are relieved to hear that the injured deputy is recovering and extend our best wishes to everyone affected.
