Marietta, OH (April 13, 2026) – Two people were taken to the hospital following a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon along State Route 7 near milepost 20.
The crash happened on Monday, April 13, when a teen driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading southbound and drifted out of the lane. The vehicle struck a guardrail head-on and went airborne before landing back in traffic.
After landing, the Jeep was hit on the passenger side by a Ford Focus traveling in the same direction. Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
A Honda Civic traveling northbound was also involved after debris from the crash struck its windshield. The driver of the Civic was not hurt.
Authorities confirmed the Jeep driver was at fault for the crash. The identities of those involved have not been released, and no additional details about the conditions leading up to the incident have been shared.
The incident remains under review by authorities. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Often Develop on Busy Highways
Crashes involving multiple vehicles can happen quickly, especially on highways with steady traffic flow. When one vehicle loses control or leaves its lane, nearby drivers may have little time to react. This can lead to a chain reaction, where several vehicles become involved within seconds.
Objects such as debris from the initial impact can also create hazards for drivers traveling in the opposite direction. Even if a vehicle is not directly struck, flying debris can still cause damage or force sudden maneuvers.
Road design, speed, and driver attention all influence how these situations unfold. Guardrails are placed to reduce the risk of vehicles leaving the roadway, but impacts with them can still result in unpredictable movement, including vehicles re-entering traffic lanes.
