New Market, TN (April 13, 2026) – Two people were killed after a plane crash Monday afternoon in New Market.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a Beechcraft 58 crashed in a field around 1:10 p.m. The aircraft had taken off from Downtown Island Airport in Knoxville prior to the incident.
The New Market Fire Department responded to the scene off Burchell Road and confirmed that both persons on board were pronounced dead.
Fire crews first worked to contain a small brush fire caused by the crash before cooling the wreckage to allow investigators access to the site.
Officials reported that the damage to the aircraft was severe, making it difficult to immediately identify the wreckage.
Authorities have asked the public to stay clear of the area as emergency crews and investigators continue their work.
