San Diego, CA (January 11, 2026) – A woman sustained head trauma on Friday night following a high-speed scooter crash near Campus Point Dr in San Diego. Emergency medical personnel from Engine 7 and Medic 19 responded to the incident shortly before 9:05 p.m., treating the victim before transporting her to UC San Diego Hospital under a major trauma alert.
According to responders, the 46-year-old woman had been riding a scooter downhill at an estimated speed of 30 miles per hour when she hit a crack in the pavement. The impact caused her to be thrown over the handlebars, resulting in a head laceration or abrasion to the back of her skull. She was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The patient experienced vomiting shortly after the fall and was unclear about whether she lost consciousness, indicating a possible LOC. She complained of head pain but denied neck or back pain. Emergency crews stabilized her on a gurney with a cervical collar and controlled the bleeding from the head wound. No other major trauma was observed.
Her vital signs at the scene included a blood pressure of 167/93, a heart rate of 78, and oxygen saturation of 90% on room air. No alcohol was detected, and there was no known medical history or use of blood thinners.
An investigation into the incident is underway, and additional updates may be provided by hospital staff or local officials.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.
