Seymour, CT (January 21, 2026) – A serious multi-vehicle accident involving five cars and a tractor-trailer closed Route 8 South near Exit 15 on Wednesday, prompting an extensive emergency response that included extrication efforts and hazardous material containment.
According to officials, the crash occurred earlier in the day and required Seymour Fire Department crews to perform at least one extrication. Injuries were reported, though the number of individuals hurt and the severity of their conditions have not yet been confirmed.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) was called to the scene after approximately 50 gallons of hydraulic oil spilled onto the roadway from the involved tractor-trailer. Cleanup crews worked alongside emergency personnel to contain the spill and prevent further environmental impact.
Route 8 South was temporarily shut down to allow emergency services to manage the scene safely and remove the damaged vehicles. Traffic was significantly impacted throughout the area during the closure.
