What Can Make Roadside Pedestrian Areas Risky
Pedestrians near rural roads can face higher risks, especially when standing close to traffic lanes. Vehicles often travel at higher speeds in these areas, leaving drivers with less time to react. Even routine activities like checking mail can become dangerous if there is limited space between the roadway and where a person stands.
Visibility also plays a role, as drivers may not expect pedestrians in certain areas. Road design, shoulder width, and lighting conditions can all affect safety. Taking steps to stay visible and maintaining distance from passing vehicles can help reduce the risk of serious injuries in roadside areas.
