Why Left-Turn Collisions Are a Common Cause of Motorcycle Crashes
Crashes involving motorcycles and turning vehicles often happen when a driver misjudges speed or distance. Motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to spot, especially in low-light conditions or busy intersections. When a vehicle turns left across oncoming traffic, the margin for error is very small.
These types of accidents frequently occur on multi-lane roads where vehicles move in opposite directions. A driver may focus on finding a gap in traffic but fail to see an approaching motorcycle. Even a brief delay in reaction can have serious consequences.
Motorcyclists are more exposed than those in enclosed vehicles, which increases the risk of severe outcomes. Road awareness, visibility, and careful turning decisions all influence how these incidents unfold.
