Why Motorcycle Crashes at Intersections Can Be Fatal
Motorcycle crashes at intersections can be especially serious because riders have little protection during impact. A collision with a larger vehicle can cause severe trauma, even when the crash happens at a controlled location.
Turning movements can also increase risk at intersections. Vehicles may cross each other’s paths while drivers and riders are watching traffic signals, lane gaps, and other vehicles nearby.
After a fatal motorcycle crash, several factors may be reviewed to determine how the collision occurred. These can include vehicle direction, lane position, impact location, visibility, and roadway design. Early reports often focus on confirmed facts while additional information is gathered.
