E-Scooter Crash Risks in Parking Lots
E-scooter crashes can cause severe injuries because riders have little protection from impact. A person may be thrown from the scooter or struck directly by a vehicle. Even in a parking lot, a collision can lead to fatal injuries.
Parking lots can be difficult spaces for all road users. Vehicles may be turning, backing out, entering lanes, or moving between parked cars. E-scooter riders may also be harder to see because they are smaller than cars and move through tighter spaces.
Lighting, parked vehicles, and building access points can affect visibility at night. After a serious crash, vehicle damage, scooter position, lighting conditions, and witness accounts may help explain how the collision happened.
