How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Can Develop on Busy Highways
Multi-vehicle crashes often begin with a single impact that quickly leads to a chain reaction. When traffic is moving at highway speeds, even a brief loss of control can send vehicles into nearby lanes or other cars.
These incidents can become more complex when several vehicles are traveling close together. A collision between two vehicles may push one of them into traffic, creating additional impacts before drivers have time to react.
Road layout, traffic volume, and vehicle size can also influence how these crashes unfold. Larger vehicles, such as trucks or tow trucks, can create stronger impacts that move smaller vehicles across the roadway.
Because several vehicles and occupants may be involved, these collisions often require extensive scene assessments to determine the sequence of events.
