What Can Happen When a Person Is Ejected During a Crash?
Ejection from a vehicle during a crash can greatly increase the risk of severe injury or death. When a person is thrown from a vehicle, they may land in active travel lanes where other vehicles are unable to stop in time.
Multi-vehicle crashes can make these situations more dangerous, as traffic continues to move through the area. Drivers may not see a person in the roadway, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions.
Safety features such as seat belts are designed to help keep occupants inside the vehicle during a crash. Staying secured inside the vehicle can reduce the chance of being exposed to additional impacts on the roadway.
