Bakersfield, CA (February 1, 2026) – A devastating multi-vehicle collision involving over 60 vehicles left several people injured Saturday morning on State Route 99 near Earlimart, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred on the northbound side of SR-99 near the Avenue 24 off-ramp at approximately 8:16 a.m. on January 31. Initial reports from CHP indicated that the incident began as a 15-vehicle pileup but quickly escalated, eventually involving an estimated 60 to 80 vehicles. The crash included a mix of passenger cars, pickup trucks, trailers, and multiple big rigs.
Emergency crews responded to the chaotic scene, working to provide care for numerous injured individuals. CHP confirmed that several people sustained injuries, though the exact number and severity have not yet been disclosed. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
The scale of the crash led to multiple secondary collisions as vehicles in both directions came to sudden halts. Both northbound and southbound lanes experienced major disruptions as first responders navigated through a complex and dangerous scene.
At this time, the cause of the initial collision remains undetermined, and CHP continues to investigate contributing factors such as visibility, speed, and roadway conditions.
