Bedford Township, MI (March 25, 2026) – A violent two-vehicle crash left a 20-year-old woman seriously hurt in Monroe County.
The collision happened around 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, along Summerfield Road near Temperance Road in Bedford Township. Authorities said the woman, from Temperance, was driving south when another vehicle turned into a private drive and struck her SUV.
The impact forced her 2005 Jeep Cherokee off the road, where it hit a utility pole and rolled several times. She was ejected during the rollover and suffered severe injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The other driver, a 30-year-old man from Pontiac, was not hurt in the crash. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. Officials noted the injured woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman as she recovers.
Why Seatbelt Use Is Critical in Rollover Crashes
Rollover crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents due to the intense motion and repeated impact forces involved. When a vehicle rolls, occupants can be thrown around inside or even ejected if they are not properly restrained.
Seatbelts are designed to keep people secured in their seats during sudden movements. Staying inside the vehicle greatly reduces the risk of severe injury. Ejection from a vehicle is often linked to more serious outcomes, including head and chest trauma.
Even in crashes where airbags deploy, seatbelts remain a key layer of protection. Using both together helps reduce the chances of life-threatening harm during high-impact events like rollovers.
