How Traffic Signal Violations Contribute to Intersection Crashes
Crashes at intersections often happen when a driver ignores a traffic signal or misjudges the timing of a light change. When one vehicle enters an intersection against a red light, other drivers may have little time to react. These collisions can involve side impacts, which may result in serious injuries due to the limited side protection in most vehicles.
Intersections along highways such as US-127 tend to carry steady traffic, especially during evening hours. Turning movements, including left turns across traffic, can increase the risk of a collision if signals are not followed. Factors like speed, visibility, and road conditions may also influence how severe a crash becomes once impact occurs.
