Bradenton, FL (March 1, 2026) – A 63-year-old man from Sarasota was killed Saturday afternoon following a collision between a motorcycle and an SUV at a Bradenton intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers reported that the crash occurred at approximately 1:28 p.m. at the intersection of 301 Boulevard East and 5th Street East in Manatee County.
Authorities said a 37-year-old woman was driving a 2016 Ford Explorer northbound on 5th Street East and approaching a stop sign at 301 Boulevard East. At the same time, the 63-year-old man was operating a 2007 Honda Silver Wing motorcycle westbound on 301 Boulevard East and nearing the same intersection.
According to investigators, the SUV attempted to cross 301 Boulevard East and entered the path of the approaching motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the right side of the SUV during the collision.
Troopers said the motorcyclist was separated from the bike upon impact. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The SUV driver was not injured in the crash. A 47-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries, officials said.
The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased motorcyclist, and we wish a full recovery to the injured passenger.
Intersection Crossing Violations Often Lead to High-Severity Motorcycle Crashes
Crashes involving vehicles crossing through intersections remain among the most dangerous scenarios for motorcyclists. When a driver attempts to proceed from a stop sign across a multi-lane roadway, accurate judgment of oncoming traffic speed and distance is critical.
Motorcycles present unique visibility and perception challenges. Due to their smaller profile, they can appear farther away than they actually are, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as “looked but failed to see.” When a turning or crossing vehicle enters a motorcyclist’s lane, the rider often has limited time and space to react.
Side-impact collisions between motorcycles and larger vehicles frequently result in severe or fatal injuries. Unlike occupants of passenger vehicles, motorcyclists lack structural protection, airbags, and reinforced frames. Even at moderate speeds, the transfer of force can eject a rider and cause catastrophic trauma.
Crash reconstruction teams typically evaluate stop sign compliance, sightlines, traffic flow, vehicle positioning, and any available surveillance or dash camera footage. Skid marks and impact angles are also analyzed to determine pre-collision speeds and braking efforts.
