What Makes Construction Zone Pedestrian Crashes Especially Dangerous?
Pedestrian crashes in construction zones often occur in areas where traffic patterns are temporarily changed and lanes are narrowed. These conditions can reduce visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, especially at night or in poorly lit areas.
Investigators commonly examine lane closures, signage placement, and traffic flow when reviewing these incidents. Sudden changes in roadway layout can increase confusion for drivers, while pedestrians may have limited safe walking space. In hit-and-run cases, officials also rely heavily on witness accounts and nearby surveillance footage to identify the fleeing vehicle. The combination of construction activity and moving traffic creates a higher-risk environment, where even brief distractions can lead to serious injury.
