Cambridge, MA (January 20, 2026) – A chaotic crash involving a stolen Porsche ended with the vehicle slamming into a biotechnology building in Cambridge Monday afternoon, leaving one person seriously injured and prompting a police investigation.
According to authorities, the Porsche had been reported stolen from Dalton St in Boston around 12:45 p.m. on January 19. Cambridge police later spotted the vehicle near Massachusetts Ave and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled at high speed down Albany St. Officers chose not to pursue, citing public safety concerns.
Moments later, the stolen car was seen traveling the wrong way down a one-way street before crashing into the Intellia Therapeutics building on Waverly St. The impact damaged multiple objects, including a tree, a bike rack, and a water pipe, scattering debris across the area.
One person inside the building sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Witnesses described the aftermath as chaotic, with debris flying and the vehicle deeply embedded in the structure.
The driver, identified as 57-year-old David Powell of Roslindale, appeared dazed and attempted to leave the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to face multiple charges in connection with the incident.
Authorities continued working into the evening to safely remove the vehicle and assess damage to the building. The investigation into the full circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
We extend our thoughts to the individual injured inside the building and wish them a full and speedy recovery.
