How Alcohol-Related Crashes Can Lead to Severe Outcomes
Alcohol can significantly impair a driver’s ability to control a vehicle. Even at lower speeds, impaired judgment and delayed reaction time can make it difficult to stay within a lane or respond to road conditions.
When speed is also a factor, the severity of crashes increases sharply. Vehicles leaving the roadway may strike fixed objects such as buildings, utility equipment, or debris, which can lead to devastating impacts.
Law enforcement agencies often rely on toxicology reports, witness statements, and scene evidence to determine impairment. These investigations help establish contributing factors in serious or fatal crashes.
