Cheektowaga, NY (January 8, 2026) – A devastating collision in Cheektowaga on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a 91-year-old woman, according to local police. The crash occurred on William St near Colton St, prompting a swift emergency response around 1:15 p.m.
Authorities report that a vehicle crossed the center median on William St and struck another car traveling in the opposite direction. Upon arrival, first responders found Joan Lewis, 91, unresponsive at the scene. Paramedics quickly transported her to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where she was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 29-year-old, remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and traffic in the area was disrupted as crews worked to clear the scene and begin their analysis of the crash dynamics.
