How Roadway Curves Can Contribute to Single-Vehicle Crashes
Curves in roadways require drivers to adjust speed and steering to maintain control of their vehicles. When a driver misjudges a curve, the vehicle can drift off the roadway, especially at higher speeds or in low-visibility conditions.
Single-vehicle crashes often occur when drivers are unfamiliar with the road layout or become distracted as they approach a bend. Even minor steering errors can cause a vehicle to leave the roadway if shoulder space is limited.
Ditches and roadside drop-offs can increase the likelihood of vehicle damage once a car exits the road. In these situations, impact force and terrain influence the severity of injuries.
Driver awareness and speed management are key factors in safely navigating curved road segments, particularly at night or in areas with reduced lighting.
