Chicago, IL (January 19, 2026) – A devastating crash early on Sunday morning on the South Side left one teenager dead and two others in critical condition after a vehicle slammed into multiple homes, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. on January 18 along the 0–100 block of E Marquette Rd in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. Police reported that the driver of a white Jeep Cherokee was headed westbound when he lost control, veering off the roadway and striking several residential structures.
The driver, identified as an 18-year-old male, was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with injuries sustained in the crash. He was later pronounced dead.
Two passengers inside the vehicle were critically injured. One, a male, suffered severe facial injuries, while the second passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was also listed in critical condition. Both were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital for emergency care.
Authorities confirmed that no residents inside the damaged homes were injured. During the investigation, officers recovered two firearms from inside the vehicle.
Chicago police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the events that led to the driver losing control.
