Cobb Co., GA (May 5, 2026) – A serious injury crash shut down several lanes Tuesday morning, May 5, on Interstate 75 northbound near Interstate 575 in Cobb County. The crash involved multiple vehicles and caused major delays during the morning commute.
Traffic cameras showed five left lanes closed as emergency units worked at the scene. At least one vehicle overturned, and a transit bus was also involved in the collision.
Drivers were forced into a single open right lane while traffic backed up for miles. Delays stretched from South Marietta Parkway, and onlooker traffic also slowed vehicles in both directions.
The crash remains under investigation. Additional details may become available as authorities continue their review. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive care and recover.
How Multi-Vehicle Interstate Crashes Affect Traffic Flow
Multi-vehicle crashes on interstates can create long delays because several lanes may need to close at once. When a vehicle overturns, emergency units may need extra room to check for injuries, remove debris, and clear damaged vehicles from the roadway.
Transit buses can add more concern because they may carry several passengers. Even if injury details are limited at first, responders must check each involved vehicle and make sure everyone at the scene is accounted for.
Traffic can also slow in the opposite direction when drivers look toward the crash scene. This can create secondary delays and raise the risk of another collision. On busy highways, even one blocked lane can quickly cause backups that stretch for miles.
