What Can Happen When Vehicles Cross the Center Line on Highways?
Longer roadway stretches near Kansas Highway 177 may encourage higher speeds, which can increase the risk when a vehicle drifts out of its lane. Crossing the center line can place vehicles directly into the path of oncoming traffic.
Side-swipe impacts can occur when vehicles make contact while traveling in opposite directions. Even if the initial contact is not head-on, the force can still push vehicles off the roadway.
When vehicles leave the road, they may enter ditches or uneven terrain, which can add to the severity of injuries. Maintaining lane position and staying alert are key factors in reducing the risk of these types of crashes.
