What Can Contribute to Crashes at Rural Highway Intersections?
Routes connecting rural areas, such as Kentucky 440 and Kentucky 408, often see a mix of local and through traffic. These intersections may not always have signals, which can increase the need for drivers to judge gaps and timing carefully.
Collisions in these areas can happen when vehicles enter or cross traffic paths at the wrong moment. Limited visibility, speed differences, and unfamiliarity with the roadway can all affect how drivers respond.
Injury crashes at rural intersections may still result in hospital visits even when damage appears moderate. The angle of impact and vehicle movement can influence how occupants are affected during a collision.
