Dayton, NV (April 11, 2026) – A man died following a crash involving an SUV and a pickup truck at an intersection in Dayton.
The collision occurred at 2:16 p.m. on Friday, April 10, at US50 and River Boat Road. Emergency units responded after reports of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection.
Preliminary findings indicate the SUV was traveling southbound on River Boat Road and approached US50, where it failed to yield at a posted stop sign. A pickup truck traveling eastbound on US50 in the left lane then struck the SUV.
The driver of the SUV, identified only as an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup truck driver and a passenger were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. No other occupants were reported.
The crash led to the closure of US50 in both directions near Occidental Drive for a period of time. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the family of the man who lost his life.
Why Failure to Yield at Intersections Can Lead to Serious Crashes
Failure to yield is a common factor in intersection crashes. When a driver does not stop or misjudges the speed of oncoming traffic, it can result in a collision with little time to react.
Highways like US routes often carry faster-moving traffic. Vehicles entering from side roads must carefully check for approaching cars before crossing or turning.
These crashes can be severe because one vehicle may strike another at full speed. Clear visibility, proper stopping, and cautious decision-making can help reduce the likelihood of these incidents.
