Why Do Crashes Happen at Rural Intersections?
Rural intersections can present risks when drivers approach from different directions at similar speeds. Without traffic signals, drivers must rely on signs and awareness to determine who has the right of way.
Limited visibility due to terrain or roadside features can make it harder to see oncoming vehicles. This can lead to both drivers entering the intersection at the same time.
When a vehicle is struck from the side, it may spin or leave the roadway, increasing the chance of injury. Road conditions, timing, and driver attention all influence how these crashes occur.
