Miami-Dade County, FL (June 16, 2026) – A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon near Southwest 248th Street and Southwest 112th Avenue.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred shortly after 12 p.m. while the deputy was operating a police motorcycle in the area. Investigators said the deputy was turning westbound onto Southwest 248th Street when he noticed debris in the roadway.
The debris caused the deputy to lose control of the motorcycle, resulting in the wreck. He was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
No other people were injured in the crash. Additional details about the accident were not immediately released.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under review as investigators continue their work. We are thinking of the injured deputy and wish him a full recovery.
How Can Roadway Debris Contribute to Motorcycle Crashes?
Motorcycles can be more affected by roadway debris than larger vehicles because riders rely on balance and have only two points of contact with the road. Even relatively small objects can create hazards if they cause a rider to brake suddenly, swerve, or lose traction.
Common roadway hazards include loose gravel, tire fragments, vehicle parts, construction materials, and other objects that may fall into travel lanes. When a rider encounters debris while turning, the risk of losing control can increase because motorcycles are already leaning and adjusting direction. Regular roadway maintenance and prompt removal of hazards can help improve safety, while riders often benefit from scanning ahead and maintaining enough space to react to unexpected obstacles.
