Why Entrapment Can Make a Two-Car Accident More Serious
When people become trapped inside a vehicle after a two-car accident, rescue efforts sometimes take longer because crews must safely remove doors, roofs, or other parts of the vehicle. These crashes may involve heavy damage that limits movement inside the passenger compartment. In some cases, trapped occupants may not be able to exit because of injuries or blocked doors.
Medical crews also evaluate whether neck, chest, or leg trauma may have occurred before moving anyone from the vehicle. A helicopter may be used if a person needs faster access to specialized care farther away. Intersections can be especially dangerous because vehicles approach from different directions at varying speeds. Wet pavement, limited visibility, and sudden turns may also contribute to serious roadway encounters involving multiple vehicles.
