What Makes Wrong-Way Crashes So Severe on Highways?
Wrong-way crashes are severe because they typically involve head-on impacts at high speeds, leaving drivers little time to react. These collisions can happen when drivers enter ramps incorrectly, become disoriented, or are impaired.
After such incidents, investigators usually review roadway signage, lighting conditions, and driver behavior leading up to the crash. Traffic camera footage and witness reports may also help reconstruct the sequence of events. These findings can be important in understanding how the wrong-way entry occurred.
