Understanding Crashes Involving Impaired Drivers
Collisions involving drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol can quickly become serious due to slowed reaction times and impaired judgment. Vehicles may swerve, brake unpredictably, or fail to maintain lanes, increasing the risk of collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians, or fixed objects.
When law enforcement attempts a traffic stop, impaired drivers may have difficulty responding safely, which can escalate the situation. Emergency responders focus on both medical care for those injured and securing the scene to prevent further harm.
Prompt evaluation of all individuals involved is critical, as injuries can be compounded by high-speed impacts or the initial loss of vehicle control.
