Why Motorcycle Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries
Motorcycle crashes can result in severe injuries because riders have less protection than people inside passenger vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, a collision can throw a rider from the motorcycle and lead to head, leg, or chest injuries. Emergency crews may request air transport when a crash victim needs rapid medical treatment at a trauma center.
Road conditions, visibility, and traffic patterns can all affect motorcycle safety. Intersections and neighborhood roadways may present additional risks when drivers do not see an approaching motorcycle in time to react. Investigators often review vehicle damage, witness statements, and roadway evidence to better understand how a crash occurred. Helmet use, speed, and the angle of impact may also help explain the severity of injuries in a motorcycle accident.
