How Investigators Typically Review a Late-Night Hit-and-Run Collision
After a serious hit-and-run collision, early focus is placed on establishing a clear timeline of events. This includes determining when the crash occurred, when the person was found, and any available witness accounts. Roadway conditions and visibility at the time are also considered.
Investigators often rely on physical evidence such as debris patterns, vehicle paint transfer, and damage on the roadway. These details can help reconstruct how the impact happened and the direction of travel of the fleeing vehicle.
Surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses may also provide clues. Even small details, such as lighting conditions or tire marks, can contribute to a clearer understanding of the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
