How Pedestrian Crashes Can Involve Multiple Vehicles
Pedestrian crashes can become more complex when multiple vehicles are involved. After an initial impact, a person may be thrown into another lane of traffic, increasing the risk of a second collision.
Roadways with multiple lanes can raise this risk, especially when vehicles are traveling in the same direction. Drivers in adjacent lanes may not have enough time to react.
Visibility, lane position, and traffic flow all affect how these incidents unfold. Situations involving more than one vehicle often result in more severe outcomes.
