What Factors Are Usually Examined After Multi-Vehicle Highway Crashes?
After a serious highway crash involving several vehicles, investigators mostly review a wide range of details to better understand how the chain of events unfolded. Traffic flow, vehicle speed, roadway design, and weather are commonly examined during the early stages of the review process.
Fire damage can also make it more difficult to determine what happened, especially when one of the vehicles becomes heavily burned. In many cases, investigators rely on witness statements, surveillance footage, and physical evidence from the roadway to piece together the sequence of actions before the collision occurred.
Highway crashes can also lead to long traffic delays while damaged vehicles are removed and debris is cleared. Lane closures and detours are frequently used to help keep other drivers safe during cleanup operations.
