Gaithersburg, MD (March 17, 2026) – A violent overnight crash in Montgomery County left one driver dead early on Sunday morning, March 15. The crash occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Woodfield Road and Glendalough Road near Gaithersburg.
Officials identified the deceased as 39-year-old Jorge Estuardo Moran Hernandez of Clarksburg. Police said Moran Hernandez was driving a Ford F-150 northbound when the pickup crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a southbound Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The impact caused the pickup to leave the roadway, strike an embankment, roll over, and hit a guardrail. Moran Hernandez was partially ejected during the rollover and died at the scene. The Jeep driver, a woman, survived with serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.
Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigators are examining the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Our condolences go out to the family of Mr. Moran Hernandez.
Why Head-On Collisions Often Cause Severe Injuries or Death
Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes due to the combined speed of the vehicles involved. The sudden transfer of energy can easily cause vehicles to roll over or eject occupants, especially if seat belts fail to restrain them fully.
Investigators review vehicle positions, skid marks, roadway conditions, and speed to determine how a collision unfolded. Even with modern safety equipment, the force of a head-on crash often results in serious injury or fatality.
