Hall County, GA (February 23, 2026) – One person was injured on Sunday morning following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Thurmon Tanner Pkwy and Cantrell Rd. The collision occurred around 11:00 a.m. on February 22.
According to the state patrol narrative, a 2020 Infiniti Q60 driven by 22-year-old Jonathan Vazemiller of Flowery Branch stopped at a stop sign but failed to yield before entering the intersection. The Infiniti then struck a 2026 Mazda CX-50 driven by 79-year-old Peter Perkich of Gainesville.
Emergency units responded to the scene and provided aid. Perkich was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with non-life-threatening injuries. Vazemiller was cited for failure to yield after stopping at a stop sign.
The incident remains under review by authorities. We are thinking of the person injured as they continue to recover.
Why Failure-to-Yield Crashes Often Happen at Stop-Controlled Intersections
Intersections controlled by stop signs rely on drivers to judge traffic gaps correctly. When a driver miscalculates the speed or distance of an approaching vehicle, a side-impact crash can occur within seconds.
Parkways like Thurmon Tanner Pkwy often carry steady traffic, especially during late morning hours. Vehicles traveling on the main roadway may move at higher speeds than drivers expect when approaching from a side road.
Older drivers and younger drivers alike can be involved in these crashes, as timing and visibility both affect decision-making. Clear sightlines, proper stopping technique, and patience at intersections help reduce the risk of collisions. Taking an extra moment to confirm the roadway is clear can make a significant difference in preventing injuries.
