Why Residential Fires Can Be Deadly for Older Adults
Older adults face higher risks in house fires due to reduced mobility, slower reaction times, and potential medical conditions. Fires can spread quickly, and heavy smoke can make it difficult to evacuate safely.
Firefighters focus on rapid search and rescue, but structural hazards and intense flames can prevent timely escape. Smoke alarms, fire-resistant construction materials, and clear exit routes are key safety measures.
Investigators often examine electrical systems, heating equipment, and other potential ignition sources to determine the cause and help prevent similar tragedies.
