How Are Interstate Injury Crashes Investigated?
Crashes involving injuries on major highways typically require a coordinated response from law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel. Responders first focus on treating the injured and securing the scene before beginning an investigation.
Investigators generally examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness statements, and traffic conditions to determine what led to the collision. Depending on the circumstances, they may also review electronic crash data and any available surveillance or dash camera footage.
Even when only a shoulder is blocked, emergency crews implement temporary traffic control measures to protect responders and motorists while damaged vehicles are removed and the scene is documented.
