Crosswalk Crash Factors Involving Vehicles and Mobility Devices
Crosswalk collisions involving mobility scooters and vehicles often require a close review of signal timing, pedestrian movement, and driver visibility. Investigators typically examine whether each party had a clear right-of-way based on traffic signals and crossing conditions.
In many cases, intersection design and sightlines can affect how quickly drivers and pedestrians notice each other. Video surveillance, witness accounts, and vehicle data may help reconstruct the sequence of events. Lighting conditions and traffic flow are also commonly reviewed, especially at larger intersections near residential areas. Because mobility scooters are lower to the ground than most vehicles, they may be harder for drivers to see in certain conditions, making visibility an important part of the investigation.
