Intersection Crashes Involving Cross Traffic
Crashes at intersections often occur when one vehicle enters the path of another traveling on a main highway. On roadways like US 50 Hwy, through traffic may be moving at higher speeds, reducing the time available to avoid a collision.
When a vehicle pulls into traffic without enough clearance, the resulting impact can cause vehicles to spin or overturn. Rollovers increase the risk of serious injury, particularly for passengers.
Investigators typically review traffic control devices, sight distance, and vehicle positioning to understand how these crashes unfold. Careful observation of oncoming traffic and allowing adequate gaps are key factors in preventing intersection collisions.
