What Factors Are Common in Late-Night Fatal Crashes on Nevada Interstates?
Late-night crashes on Nevada interstates tend to share a number of contributing factors that differ from daytime collisions. Reduced visibility, lighter traffic volumes, and driver fatigue are among the conditions most frequently associated with single-vehicle incidents during nighttime hours. Off-ramp areas can be especially risky at night, as drivers must slow and transition from highway speeds in lower-light conditions.
The stretch of I-15 near the Las Vegas Speedway carries heavy traffic during events, but can see more isolated, high-speed travel late at night. Single-vehicle crashes in these conditions sometimes involve abrupt lane changes, loss of vehicle control, or a failure to properly follow the curve of an exit ramp. These types of incidents often require detailed reconstruction work to determine exactly what occurred.
