Little Hocking, OH (January 8, 2026) – A tragic multi-vehicle accident claimed the life of one person on Wednesday morning in Belpre Township, prompting a response from state troopers and emergency personnel.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. on January 7 along Route 50 near milepost 3. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marietta Post, 67-year-old Gerald Strong, Jr., of Little Hocking, was attempting to turn onto Route 50 East from Arrowhead Road while operating a motorized scooter. During the turn, he collided with a 2012 Jeep Wrangler driven by 39-year-old Walter Ellis, Jr., of Rutland.
The impact threw Strong from his scooter, and he was subsequently struck by a 2012 Ford Escape driven by James Pryor, 29, of Athens. Moments later, he was struck a third time by a 2018 Ram 3500 operated by 62-year-old David Young of Winfield, West Virginia.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene, but Strong succumbed to his injuries. The other drivers involved remained at the location and cooperated with the ongoing investigation. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities confirmed that drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be contributing factors in the crash. The investigation into the sequence of events is continuing.
