E-Bike Crash Risks in Urban Areas
E-bike riders have less protection than people inside cars or trucks. A crash with a larger vehicle can cause severe injuries, especially when the rider is thrown from the bike.
Urban intersections can add risk because traffic may come from several directions. Drivers may be turning, parking, passing through, or moving around slower road users. At night, visibility can also be reduced.
E-bike crashes may involve damage beyond the first impact. A rider can strike the roadway, a parked car, or another object after being hit. These secondary impacts can make injuries more serious, even when the crash happens on a city street.
