Sheridan, MI (May 26, 2026) – Medical and emergency units were called to a fatal motorcycle and vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 23-year-old man from Sheridan on Sunday night, May 24.
The accident happened on South Sheridan Road near East Condensery Road. Michigan State Police said the fatal wreck happened around 11 p.m. Preliminary findings showed the rider was traveling south on Sheridan Road while passing other vehicles when the motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
Investigators said fog may have limited visibility for both the motorcyclist and the other driver before the crash occurred. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Our sincere condolences are with the young man’s family and loved ones during this painful time.
How Fog Can Increase the Risk of Nighttime Motorcycle Crashes
Fog can sharply reduce visibility for drivers and motorcycle riders, especially on rural roads with limited lighting. During nighttime travel, headlights may reflect off dense fog and make it harder to judge distance, speed, or the position of approaching traffic. Passing maneuvers can become more dangerous when visibility changes suddenly.
Motorcycles are also smaller and less visible than larger vehicles, which may make them harder to spot in poor weather conditions. Riders traveling at higher speeds may have less time to react when another vehicle appears ahead. After crashes involving fog, investigators often review weather reports, lighting conditions, roadway markings, and witness statements to better understand how visibility may have contributed to the fatal sequence.
