Fresno, CA (May 26, 2026) – A motorcycle rider was critically hurt Monday night after a vehicle struck the bike at the intersection of Olive Avenue and Rowell in Fresno.
Police said the roadway collision happened while the rider was traveling westbound on Olive Avenue. Investigators stated a car was attempting a left turn to head eastbound on Rowell when the two vehicles collided in the intersection.
When officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist lying on the ground. The rider was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The driver initially left the scene, leading investigators to classify the case as a hit-and-run, but later returned and spoke with police.
Detectives are continuing to review whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the wreck. We are keeping the injured rider in our thoughts and wishing them strength during recovery.
Why Left-Turn Motorcycle Crashes Often Cause Serious Injuries
Motorcycle crashes involving left-turning vehicles are common at intersections because drivers may misjudge the speed or distance of an approaching bike. Motorcycles are smaller than most passenger vehicles, which can make them harder to notice during turning movements.
These roadway collisions frequently lead to severe injuries since riders have little protection during an impact. Intersections with multiple travel directions may also create visibility challenges for both motorists and motorcyclists, especially at night. Investigators often review signal timing, vehicle positioning, traffic flow, and driver attention when examining these types of crashes. Cases involving drivers who briefly leave the roadway after a collision may also require additional review to determine the full sequence of events.
