Macon, GA (July 22, 2026) – A man was killed after a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office vehicle struck him on Monday night on Spring Street near the Interstate 16 exit ramp. The incident was reported at approximately 9:51 p.m. on July 20, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a deputy was driving a 2019 Dodge Charger southbound on Spring Street in the left lane when the patrol vehicle struck Clyde Haynes of Macon. Investigators said Haynes was traveling south in a wheelchair in the same lane ahead of the patrol vehicle. Haynes was taken to Atrium Health Navicent, where he was pronounced dead.
The roadway was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and cleared the area. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash because it involved a law enforcement vehicle.
