Alma, GA (May 21, 2026) – A man died, and several others were hurt on Wednesday evening after a utility vehicle carrying seven people overturned on Caraway Road in Bacon County. The 2026 Polaris UTV was traveling at high speed when the driver failed to navigate a sharp right-hand curve. The vehicle left the left side of the road, rolled over, and struck a tree.
Seven people were on board: three adults and four children. One man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Two other adults were flown from the scene for treatment. One of the four children was hurt, though injuries were described as minor. In total, five of the seven occupants were taken for medical care.
No names were confirmed in the initial report on the accident, but it is being examined by a specialized reconstruction team, and findings will be shared as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the man’s family and to everyone affected by this tragedy.
What Factors Make UTV and ATV Crashes Especially Dangerous
Utility terrain vehicles, commonly called UTVs or side-by-sides, are built for off-road use, but they are increasingly involved in serious crashes on rural roads. These vehicles sit higher off the ground and have a narrower wheelbase than most cars, which makes them more prone to rolling over, especially at speed or during sharp turns.
Carrying more passengers than a vehicle is designed for adds to that risk. Children are particularly vulnerable in these crashes because the physical forces involved in a rollover can cause serious harm even at lower speeds. Sharp curves on rural roads, where posted speeds may not account for heavier or wider vehicles, are among the most common settings for this type of wreck.
