How High-Speed Crashes at Intersections Often Lead to Severe Outcomes
Intersections can become especially dangerous when vehicles approach at high speeds. Traffic signals are designed to control the flow of vehicles, but running a red light greatly increases the risk of a serious collision.
When multiple vehicles are involved, the force of impact can spread across lanes and affect drivers who are not part of the initial event. High speeds reduce reaction time and increase stopping distance, making it harder to avoid a crash once a signal is ignored.
Urban highways like U.S. 98 often carry steady traffic throughout the day. Sudden movements through intersections can quickly turn into multi-vehicle accidents with severe consequences.
