What Happens When a Pedestrian Is Found Dead on a Texas Highway?
When a person is found deceased along a Texas roadway with signs of a vehicle strike, the case is typically handled as both a death investigation and a potential hit-and-run. Authorities work to establish a timeline, examine the surrounding area for physical evidence, and review any available surveillance or traffic camera footage. The medical examiner’s office plays a key part in confirming the cause and manner of death.
In Texas, leaving the scene of a crash that results in death is a felony offense. Investigators often rely on witness tips and community information to identify a vehicle or driver when no one has come forward. Cases like this can remain open for extended periods while evidence is reviewed and leads are followed.
